OPERATION SHOE BOX
District
33S will once again be collecting for
OPERATION SHOE BOX - (A time to remember).
Operation Shoebox began 5
years ago as a means by which members of
District 33-S could demonstrate their care
and support for those currently serving in
the armed forces who are sacrificing so much
that we may enjoy our freedoms. While
currently our primary emphasis is to support
those currently stationed in Iraq and
Afghanistan, we will send care packages to
any unit or individual in the world. We need
items for the troops, the names of
individual members or units, and money for
postage. Items themselves do not need to be
packed in shoeboxes – they will be prepared
and boxed with other items for units or
individuals.
I’ve talked to many returning
soldiers and marines to realize that our
efforts are appreciated and welcomed. The
collection of items for the troops will on
March 31st at the
3rd Cabinet Advisory Meeting in Lakeville.
Help support our troops and show them that
they are not forgotten.
DG Ray Hebert
P.S. See the current Dist 33S
Newsletter for the list of items
needed for Operation Shoebox, or contact
Lion Alan and he will email you a list.
The District 33S Eyemobile
will lead our participation in
this
year's Scituate St.
Patrick's Day Parade, scheduled for
Sunday,
March 14th -
Parade Kick-Off is 1PM.
The club has become a
sponsor of the parade with a donation of $500.00
(to the Scituate Chamber of Commerce). All
members are asked to plan to walk with the Eyemobile, wearing Lions vests, and passing out
club brochures. A NEW 3' x 6' banner
with the club's name and Lions logo has arrived,
and will be carried in front of the Eyemobile. The banner can also be used at any other Club
activity.
The St. Patrick's Day is a great
opportunity to increase our visibility in
Scituate. Let's all turn out, and show the
folks in Scituate "who we are," and how
GREAAAT it is to be a Lion!
The club has sponsored the
application of a Marshfield resident to the
District 33S Hearing
Foundation for assistance in
obtaining a hearing aid.
